Travertine Tiles

Travertine
tiles are natural stone tiles and belong to the limestone
(calcium carbonate) family. Travertine is used for countertops, walls,
floors and more. Many describe the feel of travertine to be a cross
between marble and limestone. Travertine is formed by minerals
dissolving in groundwater and then being deposited on the
earth’s surface by rivers, natural springs or geysers
(source: builddirect.com).
Like marble and other natural stone tiles, travertine is porous, which
means that it could absorb stains easily if not sealed. Even if sealed
properly (which all travertine should be), all spills should be wiped
up
promptly, especially those that are acidic, like those from wine, fruit
juices or vinegar. Travertine is easier to cut and shape
compared to other natural stone products, which is why it is often used
for kitchen backsplashes and shower mosaics. Travertine is available in
many colors including ivory, beige, walnut, gold and other natural
tones. Common travertine finishes include: polished,
matte or tumbled (textured).
